Make a grocery list
A fresh installation starts empty. Gather has three tabs. In Recipes, save a recipe with its ingredients and amounts. Press + once for each time you want to cook it. The number beside the recipe shows how often you selected it; − removes its last-added meal.
In Selected, each planned meal has its own row. Tap a meal to expand its ingredients and change its people count. If you choose the same recipe twice, you can set one meal to 2 people and the other to 3. The large − button removes that particular meal. Open Groceries for the combined product quantities and check them off as you shop.
Add everyday groceries
In Groceries choose Add a product. Enter a name, amount and unit; you do not need a recipe. Edit or remove the item from the grocery list. Adding the same name and unit again increases that manual item’s amount; it does not change recipe ingredients.
Gather remembers product names you add and offers suggestions while you type. Open Settings > Saved products to search and remove remembered names. Removing a name removes the suggestion, not a current list item. Adding it again remembers it again. In a shared household both members use and manage these suggestions. The privacy policy explains the minimal synchronization marker retained after shared suggestion deletion.
Use a recipe from the library
Open the recipe library, choose a recipe and add it to your recipes. This creates an editable copy in your current local or shared collection. You can search by name or ingredient and use the category filters.
Amounts and people
The recipe's people count describes its base quantities. Choose Whole recipe or Per person when editing. For example, 300 g of rice for a recipe serving 2 people equals 150 g per person. Set that meal to 3 people in Selected and the list needs 450 g. Settings controls the default people for newly added meals; existing meals keep their own counts. In a shared household, those settings and meal counts are shared too.
Use Gather together
Open Settings > Shop together and choose Add your partner, or tap the people icon at the top of the app. Each person creates their own account, confirms their email address and signs in. One person creates a household, which copies their current local recipes and list into the shared space. They can then create and share an invitation code. Their partner enters that code under Join your partner. A code works once and expires after 23 hours.
A household has room for two people with equal editing rights. Joining opens its existing collection; it does not merge or replace your original local recipes. Your original collection remains on your device. Language and photo-search permission stay personal.
Where is my data?
Without a shared household, recipes and lists are saved on the current device. A browser's local collection is separate from the mobile app's local collection. In a shared household, Firebase stores and syncs recipes, selected meals, manual groceries, saved product names, checkmarks, default people and AH product choices across signed-in devices. Shared recipe data is stored in the European Union; see the privacy policy for Firebase account processing and other details.
Shared data is cached on your device for offline use. A waiting change is not yet confirmed on your partner's device. Open Your household to check sync status or choose Try syncing again. If both of you changed the same item, review your saved change there before choosing whether to apply it again or keep the shared version. Finish syncing or resolve waiting changes before signing out or leaving. Signing out or leaving keeps a private local cache; account deletion removes the app's tracked caches for that account on this device.
Share a copy of your list
In Groceries, Share sends a text copy to the app or destination you choose. It contains ingredient names, amounts and checkmarks; it does not update itself when your list changes. Household syncing is separate. The chosen destination handles its copy under its own terms, and Gather does not keep recipients in a contact list.
Open your groceries in the AH app
Open Groceries > Add to AH. Search for each remaining product, choose the exact AH product and check the number of packages. Required recipe amounts and package counts are separate. For example, needing two onions does not mean buying two bags: choose a count when Gather cannot convert the units. Checked groceries are excluded. Product choices are remembered and can be changed; choose another product if the saved one is unavailable.
Install the AH app and sign in there with your own AH account. Tap Open in the AH app once. Gather opens AH directly on phones; it does not automatically fall back to a browser. If AH is missing or cannot handle the link, Gather shows an error and stays open. The browser preview opens a new AH tab instead. Your Gather account does not sign you in to AH.
After AH opens, Gather closes this screen and you return to your normal grocery list. There is no return-to-Gather basket-check prompt. Another deliberate press offers the complete selected list again and may increase quantities at AH. Fast simultaneous taps are blocked only while opening. Gather cannot read the result or confirm individual additions, never places an order, does not check groceries off after opening and never retries automatically.
The handoff supports up to 25 distinct products and 99 packages per product. Larger or incomplete selections are blocked. This unofficial feature is not endorsed or supported by Albert Heijn and may be affected by changes to AH’s app or services. Gather never asks for or stores AH credentials. See the privacy policy for catalog searches, product images, saved choices and older local attempt records.
Add or change your own recipe photo
Open a recipe in the editor and tap Choose own photo. Select an image using your system’s image picker, then save the recipe. Gather saves a small copy that works offline. In a shared household it travels with the recipe so both members can see it. Choosing a photo does not enable online searches or give Gather access to your whole gallery, camera or microphone.
Choose another image to replace it, or choose No photo to remove it, then save. The original image in your device’s library is unchanged. Cancelling the picker keeps the current recipe photo. You can always save a recipe without a photo.
An online photo is missing or does not match
Photo search is off until you allow it. Change that choice in Settings. Switching search off stops future searches; photos already attached to recipes can still load from Wikimedia when displayed, including shared recipes.
Photos are illustrative and may not exactly show your recipe. Open its detail screen for photo credits. Another photo cycles through available results; No photo removes the selected photo. A search may return no result or be unavailable. You can save without a photo. See the privacy policy for how online photo requests work.
Saving or signing in failed
The editor keeps your unsaved changes if a save fails. Keep it open and retry. If another member changed or removed a recipe while you were editing, you can save your version as a new recipe. For account access, check your email address and use Forgot password if needed. Check your spam folder for verification and password-reset messages.
If you report a problem, include your app version, device model, operating-system version and the steps that led to it. Never send your password or invitation code. Do not uninstall or clear app storage before preserving recipes or waiting changes you need: local-only data and unsynced changes cannot be restored from the shared household.
Delete data or an account
Delete a recipe from its detail screen, remove individual meals in Selected, or choose Start a new list to clear selected meals, manual groceries and checkmarks. This keeps your recipes and saved product names. Changes in a shared household affect both members.
Open Your household and choose Leave household to leave. The other member keeps the shared data. If you are the last member, leaving permanently deletes the shared household and its data. Your original local recipes remain separate.
To delete your account, open Your household, choose Delete my account, enter your password and confirm. This removes your account, profile, invitations and the app's tracked household caches for that account on this device. Shared data remains for the other member; it is deleted when the final member leaves. If removal is interrupted, reopen the account screen and retry. Original local recipes and personal device settings are separate from your account.
If you cannot use the app, email twistmodzzz@gmail.com from your account email address with “Gather account deletion” in the subject. Include your account email address, but never your password. The shared-data and backup limits in the privacy policy still apply.
System app-storage or uninstall controls remove installation data. Device backups may remain or restore data later; manage those separately in your device settings. Deleting an app or its storage does not delete your cloud account.
